Warranty Information

Your AC is Backed by the Manufacturer

Every air conditioner we sell comes with a full manufacturer’s warranty. Here’s what’s covered, for how long, and exactly how to file a claim if something goes wrong.

Manufacturer Warranty

All warranties are provided directly by the brand — not by us.

1–12 Year Coverage

Coverage ranges from 1 year to 12 years depending on brand and component.

Register Your Unit

Registering your AC online often extends your warranty significantly.

Pro Install Matters

Mini splits require licensed HVAC installation to keep warranty valid.

How Air Conditioner Warranties Work

Every air conditioner sold at Air Conditioners Shop is covered by a manufacturer’s warranty — a guarantee provided directly by the brand (LG, Frigidaire, Mitsubishi, etc.) that the product will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a stated period of time.

Air Conditioners Shop is an authorized retailer. This means your warranty is fully valid when purchasing from us — the same coverage you’d receive buying directly from the brand or from a big-box retailer.

If your AC unit develops a defect covered by the warranty, the manufacturer will repair or replace the unit at no cost to you. Some warranties cover parts only; others cover parts and labor. The scope and duration vary by brand and product type.

ℹ️

Important: Warranty claims are handled directly with the manufacturer — not through Air Conditioners Shop. We are happy to help you locate manufacturer contact information and navigate the process, but we are not a service center and cannot authorize warranty repairs ourselves.

Warranty Coverage by Brand

The table below reflects the standard warranty periods for new units purchased from authorized retailers. Some brands offer extended coverage when you register your product online within 30 days of purchase.

Brand Product Type Parts Warranty Compressor Warranty Labor Warranty
LG Window AC 1 year 5 years 1 year
Frigidaire Window / Portable AC 1 year 5 years 1 year
GE Appliances Window AC 1 year 5 years 1 year
Midea Window / Portable AC 1 year 5 years 1 year
Mitsubishi Electric Mini Split 5 years 7 yrs (12 w/ reg.) 1 year
Daikin Mini Split 5 years 7 yrs (12 w/ reg.) 1 year
Carrier Central AC / Mini Split 5 years 10 years w/ reg. 1 year
Goodman Central AC 10 years 10 years Not included
Hisense Window / Portable AC 1 year 5 years 1 year

Warranty terms are subject to change by the manufacturer. Always refer to the warranty documentation included with your product for the most current terms. “w/ reg.” = extended period available with product registration.

What’s Covered vs. What’s Not

✓ Generally Covered

  • Manufacturing defects in parts and materials
  • Compressor failure under normal use
  • Electrical component failures
  • Fan motor defects
  • Refrigerant leaks due to defective parts
  • Control board failures
  • Sealed system failures

✗ Generally Not Covered

  • Physical damage from misuse or accidents
  • Damage from improper installation
  • Cosmetic damage (scratches, dents)
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Clogged or dirty filters (user maintenance)
  • Damage from power surges or lightning
  • Unauthorized modifications or repairs
  • Commercial use of residential units

The exact coverage varies by manufacturer. Always read the warranty card included with your product for the specific terms applicable to your unit.

What Can Void Your Warranty

Certain actions can void your manufacturer’s warranty entirely. The most common causes of warranty voidance are:

  • DIY installation of mini splits or central AC — Most manufacturers require installation by a licensed HVAC technician for systems requiring refrigerant line connections. Self-installation typically voids the warranty on these units.
  • Using an unauthorized service provider — Having your unit serviced or repaired by someone who is not a manufacturer-authorized technician.
  • Removing or altering the serial number — The serial number is required to validate your warranty claim. Never remove or deface it.
  • Using non-approved refrigerants — Only the refrigerant type specified in the manual should be used.
  • Commercial use of residential units — Running a residential-rated unit in a commercial environment (24/7 operation, non-residential settings) typically voids coverage.
  • Physical damage — Dropping, crushing, or otherwise physically damaging the unit.
⚠️

Window and portable AC units are generally safe to install yourself — these units do not require professional installation and self-installation does not void the warranty. Only mini split and central AC systems carry professional installation requirements.

How to File a Warranty Claim

Warranty claims are filed directly with the manufacturer. Here is the general process:

Gather Your Information

Locate your model number and serial number (on the label on the back or side of the unit) and your proof of purchase (order confirmation email from Air Conditioners Shop).

Contact the Manufacturer

Use the warranty contact information in your product manual or see the Brand Warranty Contacts section below. Most manufacturers have online claim portals and phone support.

Describe the Problem

Clearly describe the defect, when it appeared, and any error codes the unit is displaying. Photos or video of the issue can speed up the process significantly.

Schedule a Service Visit or Return

Depending on the product and defect, the manufacturer will either dispatch a service technician, send replacement parts, or authorize a return of the unit for replacement or repair.

Product Registration — Why It Matters

Many manufacturers offer significantly extended warranty coverage — sometimes double the standard period — when you register your product online within 30–90 days of purchase. This is especially important for mini split systems where Mitsubishi and Daikin extend compressor warranties from 7 years to 12 years with registration.

To register your product, visit the manufacturer’s website (listed in the Brand Contacts section below) and follow their registration process. You’ll need your model number, serial number, and date of purchase.

Register immediately after installation. Most extended warranty offers require registration within 60–90 days of the original purchase date. Don’t wait — set a reminder today.

Extended Warranties and Protection Plans

In addition to manufacturer warranties, Air Conditioners Shop offers optional extended protection plans through our partner at checkout. These plans extend your total coverage period and often include:

  • Coverage beyond the manufacturer warranty period (up to 5 additional years)
  • Labor and service call coverage not included in the standard manufacturer warranty
  • Power surge protection
  • No deductibles on most claims

Extended protection plan details and pricing are available at checkout. Plans must be purchased within 30 days of your AC purchase.

Warranty FAQ

Most residential AC warranties are non-transferable and apply only to the original purchaser. Some brands, particularly for mini splits and central AC systems, may allow warranty transfer with prior written consent. Check your specific warranty documentation or contact the manufacturer to confirm.
After 1 year, full parts-and-labor coverage typically ends for window units, but the compressor is usually still covered for 4 more years. Contact the manufacturer with your model and serial number — if the compressor is the issue, it may still be covered. If the problem is unrelated to a covered component, you’ll need to pay for service out of pocket or use an extended warranty if you purchased one.
No — shipping damage is not a warranty issue. It is a shipping claim. Contact Air Conditioners Shop directly at support@airconditionersshop.com within 48 hours of delivery with photos of the damage. We will handle the shipping claim and arrange a replacement or refund. Do not contact the manufacturer for shipping damage — contact us.
If you believe your warranty claim was wrongly denied, contact us at support@airconditionersshop.com. We can sometimes advocate on your behalf with our brand representatives and have occasionally helped customers get claims reconsidered. We cannot guarantee outcomes, but we’re happy to try.
Yes. Your proof of purchase (order confirmation email from Air Conditioners Shop) is sufficient documentation for a warranty claim with most manufacturers. The serial number on the unit is the most important piece of information — never cover or remove it. You do not need the physical warranty card.
